Five dead and at least a hundred injured by devastating tornado Czech Republic

A tornado in the south of the Czech Republic, not far from the border with Austria, has claimed at least five lives, Austrian media report. The whirlwind damage is enormous. There is also at least 100 to 150 injured in the region with the towns of Hodonin and Breclav, about 80 kilometres northeast of Vienna.

The Austrian Red Cross and Fire Brigades came to the rescue. Rescue workers came from neighbouring Slovakia as well. The Czech authorities planned to deploy the military for relief.

In Hodonin, a retirement home was destroyed and a bus overthrown. According to the Mayor of Hrusky, his village was half destroyed.

Social media images show that the tornado has left a trace of destruction.
