Five dead and two injured in attack by bow and arrow man in Norway

In the Norwegian town of Kongsberg, a man with a bow and arrow killed five people and seriously injured another two others. The police have picked up one suspect.

The wounded are serious, they are admitted to intensive care. One of them is a police officer who was not working at the time of the attack.

Nothing is known about a motive yet, the man has yet to be questioned. The police don‘t rule out terrorism. According to authorities, he was presumably acting alone.


At 6.13 pm, the police received several reports of people who saw someone walking with a bow and arrow at multiple places in central Kongsberg. Police confirm that the perpetrator has moved across a large area.

The man is said to have shot at people in a grocery store, among other things. The police are still finding out if all the victims were shot with the bow and arrow.

Half an hour after the report, the man was arrested. At the arrest he resisted, international news agencies report. Emergency services sprung out en masse, including eight ambulances and three ambulance helicopters.

Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg speaks of a horrific incident. She didn’t want to speculate about a motive yet.

Police have conducted trace investigations and questioned witnesses. The municipality of Kongsberg has opened an area in a hotel for relatives and stakeholders who need help and support from the municipality.

Kongsberg is a town of 24,000 inhabitants located about 80 kilometres southwest of the capital Oslo.
