The 51-year-old Wiegman was appointed by the FA in the summer of last year. She has been employed at the KNVB since the beginning of 2017.

Ice Hockey: Belarus has lost organization World Cup

17.07 hours: Belarus has lost the organization of the World Cup. The International Federation IIHF has made that decision under international pressure. The union says it‘s not safe enough in the country.

Belarus, together with Latvia, was designated host country for the World Cup, scheduled from 21 May to 6 June. Due to the political turmoil in the country, there was much opposition to holding the final round in Belarus, with Minsk as the playing city.

President Alexandr Lukachenko, following a disputed victory in the elections on 9 August, often causes peaceful protests of the population to be knocked down by hard hands. Among others, 44 Members of the European Parliament recently signed a letter calling on the IIHF to deprive Belarus of the organisation of the World Cup.

Last week, the pressure to move the tournament increased even more, after the Czech car company Skoda announced to withdraw as main sponsor if the tournament remained in Belarus.

Handball: Cape Verde leaves World Championships after 16.03

hours: Cape Verde has withdrawn to the World Cup in Egypt for the rest of the tournament. The squad has too many positive coronas. The Cape Verde match against Germany to be played last Sunday had already been cancelled because of the contamination not enough players could be drawn up.

โ€œ Because Cape Verde still has difficulties in setting up at least ten players (as the rules dictate, save.), the country has decided to withdraw,โ€ said the League. โ€œThe IHF has accepted their cancellation, which benefits all those involved at the World Cup.โ€

It was long uncertain whether Cape Verde could make its debut at the World Cup. The team was quarantined in Portugal at the beginning of this week because of a number of coronavirus cases within the selection. The Dutch handballers were already ready to fly to Egypt as replacements if Cape Verde would drop out, but the African team came in Cairo anyway.

Uruguay, which would play against Cape Verde on Tuesday, gets a regulatory 10-0 victory. Germany got that victory last Sunday too. Cape Verde lost the first game with 34-27 to Hungary. Cape Verde is the third country to withdraw from the World Cup. Even before the start of the tournament, the Czech Republic and theUnited States signed out. They have been replaced by Northern Macedonia and Switzerland.

Equestrian: Indoor Brabant will continue this year, without an audience

14.31 hours: Indoor Brabant will continue in two months, as the organisation announced Monday. The event in Den Bosch will take place without an audience in connection with the applicable corona regulations.

โ€œ It is important to ensure the continuity of equestrian sport despite all the limitations. This is essential for the horses, riders and everyone else connected to the equestrian industryโ€, says Anky van Grunsven, former topama zone and chairman of The Dutch Masters/Indoor Brabant.

Sports dome NOC*NSF also welcomes the fact that the event will take place this year. In 2020 Indoor Brabant was cancelled at the last minute. โ€œFor the TeamNL athletes this offers the necessary perspective to prepare for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This certainly applies to equestrian sport where not only the riders, but also the horses must be in top shapeโ€, reports NOC*NSF in a statement.

Indoor Brabant is scheduled for 12 to 14 March.

Brzeczek was the successor of Adam Nawalka in 2018, whose contract was not renewed after the disappointing expired World Cup of 2018. Poland was eliminated at the World Cup in the group phase.

Badminton: Badminton League ends all competitions at

10.49 a.m.: The Dutch badminton federation puts a point behind the season. All current competitions, including the Eredivisie, are terminated immediately. No champions will be appointed and clubs will not promote and degrade.

Due to the extension of the current lockdown due to the coronapandemic until at least Tuesday 9 February, Badminton Netherlands no longer sees the possibility to play out the already started competitions. โ€œWe realise that this is a far-reaching decision, but in our view it is the right decision,โ€ said the union in a statement.

At an earlier stage, the League had developed several alternative scenarios to allow the competition to be played out, but now finds it irresponsible in several respects. โ€œThe health of everyone in badminton in the Netherlands is paramount and a compulsory resumption could lead to both logistical and financial problems for associations. In addition, we can’t resume the competition without players being able to train properly.โ€

The Badminton League wants to look at alternative tournaments for competition teams when there is a view of easing.

Olympic Games: Organization wants fewer athletes in Tokyo ceremonies

10.30 a.m.: The organisation of the Olympic Games in Tokyo wants to reduce the number of athletes who are allowed to attend the opening and closing ceremony. More than 11,000 athletes are expected to participate in the Games.

โ€œ To ensure the safety of the athletes, we consider it necessary to reconsider the number of participants in the opening and closing ceremony and the way in which they will enter the stadium,โ€ the organizing committee stated in a statement.

According to Japanese media, the number of athletes allowed to attend the opening may be reduced to 6000, and the organization said that talks with the IOC are still ongoing and that โ€œno specific approach has yet been decided.โ€

The opening ceremony will take place on 23 July.

Lucinda Brand has already secured the final victory in the World Cup for the women, but also for her, Overijse is important as a preparation for the World Cup. Denise Betsema and world champion Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado compete for second place in the World Cup.

Promise Shirin van Anrooij makes her return in Overijse. She had been out of circulation since the World Cup in Tabor at the end of November with an arm injury.

โ€œ Overijse is a beautiful field ride with a lot of history. It is not for nothing called the mother of all crossesโ€, says coach De Knegt. โ€œAlthough the course has little to do with that of the world championship in Ostend a week later, it is a very fair round where you get a good indication of your shape level.โ€

Swimming: Van der Meer puts the point behind top sports career

09.50 hours: Swimster Maud van der Meer ends her top sports career. She wants to combine motherhood with a social career in (sports) diets. The 28-year-old Van der Meer achieved her biggest successes with the relay team on the 4×100 meter free.

Van der Meer had a stake in the gold medal in the 4×100 free at the 2011 World Cup and on the same part she won silver at the 2015 World Cup and bronze at the 2017 World Championships. She was also twice European Champion on the long track in 2016: on the 4×100 free and 4×100 free mixed. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Van der Meer swam only in the series of the 4×100. The Dutch quartet finished fourth in the final.

After the swimmer of the HPC Eindhoven had become the mother of son Mason on 31 May 2018, Van der Meer managed to return to the top with the goal of going again for the Olympics. When she was unable to join the Rotterdam Qualification Meet in December, she decided shortly afterwards that it was โ€œbeautiful.โ€

โ€œ Theoretically, I still have a very small chance to qualify myself as a relay swimmer in April or May, or if necessary as a reserve for the Games. But I notice to myself that the ultimate motivation to do anything for that, has not been around since December. Then as a top athlete you have to be honest with yourself and your surroundings and stopping is the best choiceโ€, says Van der Meer.

โ€œ I look back at my top sports career and everything I‘ve achieved with a very positive feeling. I am especially proud of myself that after the birth of Mason I started my old level again, because it is not easy to combine motherhood with top sport. The fact that I don’t have to do that now also gives me peace. I have a lot of desire for my ‘new life’ as a mother and to help other (top) athletes as a dietician.โ€

Bingtao, who became a pro player at 15, defeated not the slightest snooker players on their way to the finals. Neil Robertson, Stephen Maguire and defender Stuart Bingham all had to acknowledge their superior in Bingtao with 6-5. In the final, he had to compete against the two-time winner of the Masters, John Higgins.

Yet Doncic was dissatisfied, also with his own performance. โ€œIn the second half I played dramatically. I became selfish because I made 30 points in the first half. I should have done a lot better.โ€

21 year old Doncic is only the fourth player ever to reach at least 35 points, 15 rebounds and 15 assists. He’s the youngest player ever to succeed. Oscar Robertson did it five times.

The Finn Lauri Markkans came on the side of the Bulls to 29 points and 10 rebounds. For Markkanen, it was only his second duel after an absence of seven matches in connection with the applicable corona measures.
