Flawless Barça-start Koeman

Ronald Koeman gave the excellent season start with FC Barcelona a suitable follow-up to visit Celta de Vigo on Thursday. After the 4-0 victory at Villarreal last weekend, the Catalans won the tricky away race in northwest Spain: 0-3.

Koeman started with the same eleven players as in the first duel, so Lionel Messi was posted as fake nine, Ansu Fati was left out and Frenkie de Jong played in the ‘double six-s’ together with Sergio Busquets. Despite a soaking wet field, Barcelona played frivolous and fast combination football at times, with the combinations between Messi, Fati and Coutinho being flashing.
After eleven minutes, only seventeen-year-old Fati opened the score with his third goal in two matches this season. With a quick movement, the top talent shook off his opponent, and then handsomely with his right point to find the small left corner.

Celta did not counteract much, and Barcelona held control of the match, until defender Clement Lenglet had to move in with his second yellow card on a stroke of rest because of a too far stretched arm. Antoine Griezmann was taken directly to the side by Koeman and defender Ronald Araujo came within the lines.

After rest, Barcelona had a grip on the match despite the bottom and that led to the deserved 0-2. Lionel Messi slalomed through the Celta defense and found the net through the leg of Lucas Olaza, who got the goal to his name. A rain of chance for Barcelona followed, and only fifteen minutes before Celta still seemed to believe in a stunt. However, this did not lead to a serious final offensive. FC Barcelona did strike in the final phase. In the very last minute, after a great action, Messi came across the goalkeeper and it was Sergi Roberto who shot the rebound hit: 0-3.

With six points from two duels, Barcelona stands fifth in La Liga. However, the team of Koeman played one or two matches less than the competition.
