For one second Blind feared end of career: ‘Glad to be back on the field’

Two and a half weeks after the scare against Hertha BSC, Daley Blind was back on the field with Ajax on Sunday in the away game against Sparta Rotterdam (0-1). “All tests were positive,” Blind said after the match. “I quickly got the green light from the doctors and medics of Ajax and the hospital

He barely thought about a possible premature end of his career. “Maybe one second“, Blind admitted, to add with a wink. “I‘m mentally very strong.”

“Hopefully on the field for a long time to come

Blind went to ground during a practice match with Hertha without an opponent nearby, after his defribillator had gone off. Last Tuesday it was announced that the 30-year-old international had resumed training.

During the Champions League game against Valencia at the end of last year Blind also went to ground. The Dutch national was suffering from an inflammation of the heart muscle. He has been playing with a defibrillator ever since.

“I’m happy to be back on the field“, said Blind after the game with Sparta. “Hopefully for a long time to come.”
