Ko Itakura has traded Manchester City for Borussia Mönchengladbach. The former defender of FC Groningen transfers to the Bundesliga for five million euros and signs a contract for four seasons.
Itakura came to City in 2019, before going through his entire education in his homeland Japan. The Citizens initially stole the now 25-year-old defender at Groningen for six months, but this was extended by one year. After a year of playing at Schalke 04 in the 2nd Bundesliga, Itakura City is now permanently leaving.
Gladbach calls the Japanese ‘a building block in the plans’. Itakura, twelve-time Japanese international, has played 59 games for The Pride of the North in the past. In it, he scored once. At Manchester City, it never came to a main force debut.
