Formula 1 team Williams sold to American company

The British Formula 1 team Williams will be in American hands. The race stable is taken over by Dorilton Capitals, an investment company from the United States. At the end of May, the company announced that it was in big trouble.

Williams, one of the iconic teams in Formula 1, made a loss of 14 million euros last year. The team will continue to race under the same name and also the headquarters will remain in the English Grove.

Unanimate support

“The takeover received the unanimous support of the board of directors of Williams, including Sir Frank, who determined that the takeover will secure the long-term success of Williams”, said the race stable in a press release.

Aware of financial problems, Williams’ sporting performance has also been substandard for several years. Also this season the team hasn’t scored a single point in Formula 1

Successful past

In the eighties and nineties the world looked very different for Williams. The team took the constructors’ title (the title for racing stables) nine times, seven times a driver of the formation became world champion. Among others Alain Prost, Nelson Piquet and Nigel Mansell celebrated success at Williams.

At the moment George Russell and Nicholas Latifi are driving on behalf of Williams in Formula 1.
