Fortuna Sittard had to take his first defeat against Sparta under Sjors Ultee, but picked up on Saturday. The Limburgers visited PEC Zwolle a tight but more than deserved outriach: the Zian Flemming that came from Zwolle this summer made the difference.
PEC reached peace with a 0-0 stand and that could be called a small miracle. Goalkeeper Michael Zetterer had to go to jail early after a free kick of Flemming and a little later saw Lisandro Semedo and Mickaël Tirpan appear before him. These early pinpricks were the prelude to a particularly one-sided first half. Zetterer, however, remained neatly and was once helped by the bar hit by Emil Hansson.
Fortuna continued his rush in the second half and got the first chance through Ben Rienstra. After Eliano Reijnders on the other side failed to help PEC get a head start, the guests still got what they deserved. Flemming could cross half the field, cut to his left and curled the ball refined in the far corner: 0-1.
PEC trainer John Stegeman responded with a triple change and brought the attackers Virgil Misidjan and Immanuel Pherai within the lines. It didnt have much effect: Fortuna was scrapped, but PEC did not go beyond a distance shot by Thomas Lam, which was parked by Yanick van Osch. Mats Seuntjens put an end to all uncertainty in the last minute of the regular playing time: 0-2 after an individual action.
Fortuna was one point behind PEC at the start, but now makes a big leap in the ranking. Ultee and his own are rising from place thirteen to place eleven.
