Marianne Vos brought the third stage of the Giro Rosa to her name. In the stage from Santa Fiora to Assisi the CCC rider won the sprint of the first part of the peloton.
Annemiek van Vleuten remained in possession of the leader‘s jersey. In the first half of the stage the riders got the toughest climbs of the day, but nobody felt called upon to start the attack. In the hilly sequel, pinholes were sometimes handed out, but none of the failures were long lived.
Until 500 metres before the finish the group stayed together, until Vos took off. In the vicious final climb she had just enough left to claim the victory in front of her.
When I saw this stage, I thought: typical an arrival for Marianne Vos, said Van Vleuten. It wasn’t about the win today. For me it was important not to lose any time. We chased the team attentively in the front. Sometimes I had to close a gap. It was a good day for the team
