The Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into 21 coaches suspected of sexual abuse of minors in French figure skating. The investigation follows a report by the French Ministry of Sport.
In the August report, the Ministry comes forward with numerous accusations and testimonies of assault, intimidation or mistreatment against the 21 trainers. The aim of the investigation is to find more victims and alleged perpetrators, reports the public prosecutor.
In February, the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office launched a preliminary criminal investigation. This was prompted by the testimony of former French champion horseback riding Sarah Abitbol, who claimed that she had been raped several times between 1990 and 1992 by her then trainer Gilles Beyer. Abitbol was fifteen years old when the abuse began. She also wrote a book about it.
