Henk Fraser considered drastically intervening at Sparta before half an hour. He felt that his players were not complying with the agreements against Ajax and decided, out of colance, to switch four players only in peace.
Shortly after the match, the biggest grumpy had already disappeared at Fraser. “It just shot through my head to change after 25 minutes,” says Fraser to ESPN. “The plan was clear. What they had to put in it is guts. After the goal, it was gone. There was no pressure on the ball and we stood up. Then that can happen (change, save.), but as a trainer you sometimes have to think.”
“The players have been working hard all season. It was a little respect that I showed not to do it after 25 minutes. Its about what you bring yourself. Often you lose these games, but its about yourself. It went excellent for ten minutes, but after that we did not dare.”
Fraser, however, does not blame his players after the 4-2 defeat in the Johan Cruijff Arena. “Theyre really doing their stinking best. The difference in quality is very clear, you have to be as honest as well.”
