French actor Gérard Depardieu is suspected of rape. Justice in France started an investigation into him in December last year, reports a source of justice to press agency AFP. The actor hasn‘t been arrested.
It’s about suspicions that have been in the publicity before. In 2018, Depardieu was accused of rape by a 22-year-old actress.
That would have happened in one of his homes in Paris, after they met during a master class that the actor gave. The French justice investigated the case, but eventually concluded that there was too little evidence. Why a new investigation has now begun is not clear.
Depardieu is considered the figurehead of French cinema. He played in some 170 films and won numerous prizes. In 1991 he received a Golden Globe for his role in Green Card and in the same year a César for his share in Cyrano de Bergerac. In addition, Depardieu is also known for his roles as Obelix in the Asterix and Obelix filming.
