The French government wants the corona pass to apply from 15 January only to people who have been fully vaccinated or recovered from a corona infection, and no longer for people who have been tested negatively. The corona pass would thus become a vaccination pass, announced Prime Minister Castex in a speech. Parliament has yet to agree to the so-called 2G measure.
“In places where the pass is necessary, you need to show that you have been vaccinated to enter,” Castex said. This concerns, for example, the hospitality industry or cultural institutions. “A negative test result is no longer accepted.”
Furthermore, Castex announced new corona measures due to the omikron variant. The French government fears that 250,000 new corona infections may occur a day at the beginning of January. On Saturday, France reported more than 100,000 new cases, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
Most measures will take effect on 3 January. People must work from home for at least three days a week, if they can do so, and there is no longer allowed to eat or drink in public transport, cinemas, theaters and sports complexes. Furthermore, people must be required to sit in cafes and bars.
Outdoor face masks
The number of people allowed to attend a meeting is reduced to a maximum of 5000 people outside and 2000 people inside. The same applies to sports complexes. Furthermore, city authorities are allowed to make outdoor mouth masks mandatory for city centres. The measures apply for at least three weeks.
French people can already claim a booster shot against the virus three months after their last jab tomorrow morning, Castex announced. Thats four months now and was five months earlier. Moreover, Minister Véran of Health does not rule out the possibility of a fourth jab.
The French government says that the reopening of the schools, scheduled for January 3, will continue. Castex said a curfew is not coming.
Falsified corona passes
The Prime Minister also announced that there is a harder action against people who fraud with the corona pass. Last week, the French police reported that 182,000 false specimens have been found since the introduction of the pass, last July.
The police have deployed hundreds of people to track fake passes.
