Frenkie de Jong: Confidencein Koeman, but dont know what president think

Frenkie de Jong played his hundredth game for FC Barcelona on Wednesday, but it was one to forget quickly. The Orange international is very bad with the harsh 3-0 defeat at Benfica in the Champions League.
Barรงa had a false start. โ€œThey score 1-0 very quickly, thats never good. I think we dont do badly in the first half after that. Were better and we have opportunities, we just have to score. After that second goal, well fall apart a little bit. It was a huge chaos,โ€ says De Jong at RTL7.
Coach Ronald Koeman exchanged Gerard Piquรฉ after half an hour, after which De Jong collapsed back. The sting seemed to disappear from the Catalan game. โ€œPiquรฉ already had yellow and maybe they wanted to create an extra man in midfield through me. I also had the idea that I could get into dangerous positions a few times, and bring some extras to midfield. But thats also possible through the back, thats not up to me.โ€
De Jong was twice in Lisbon, but he travelled both times at Luuk de Jong. โ€œI should have hired the second one myself and shoot, sure. But not the first one.โ€ The former Ajacied knows that his return is critical. โ€œI dont mind people criticizing, but I dont think I had too little returns last season. Especially when you look at how many matches Ive played in the back. People may be criticized, but they have to substantiate it and not just shout out.โ€
De Jong knows that the criticism of Barรงa and Koeman will increase in the meantime after the punishment against Benfica. โ€œIt
s a really bad blow. I dont think Barcelona has ever started so badly in the Champions League. Its really hard, but there are four more games and you have to keep fighting all the time. Im still confident about it. For my part, that trust is still in the direction of the coach, but I dont know what the president thinks. Its a very difficult situation.โ€
