Rafael van der Vaart finds the criticism of Frenkie de Jong unjustified. FC Barcelona‘s midfielder would slow down Catalans’ play, but the analyst and former playmaker will not go along with that.
The fact that Barcelona won without De Jong van Levante prompted many critics to match them. “You don‘t participate once and they win, but they won that with nine men,” counteracts Van der Vaart at Ziggo Sport. “Frenkie is just a great player who does well. I give it to you, eighty million euros to Barcelona.”
According to Van der Vaart, the midfielder from Arkel has proven itself double and cross. “From the start he plays everything and then it’s often about his dribbles. If things go well, they like it, but if things don‘t work out, they say he dribbling too long. That’s such a stupid argument. This is just his game.”
However, the analyst does have a point of criticism. De Jong‘s statistics should be better. “If you’re so good, you need to be able to give ten assists and make six or seven goals. In that he does too little with his dribbling.”
