Frenkie de Jong scores, causes penalty, misses penalty and reaches final

Scoring, causing a penalty, missing a penalty and still reaching the final. The semi-final of the mini-tournament for the Spanish Supercup was the match of Frenkie de Jong.

FC Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad after a crazy penalty series and placed itself for the final Sunday evening.

The Spanish Supercup tournament was played last year in Saudi Arabia between the country champion, the number two and the two finalists of the Copa del Rey, the Spanish Cup.

For Real Sociedad and Athletic Club de Bilbao, that was a wipe for the bleeding. They looked forward to a special Basque Cup Final, but due to the coronapandemic that duel was not going through.

Contest De Jong

Real Sociedad was on Wednesday night in Cรณrdoba extra in the match of Frenkie de Jong. Not that the Dutchman played the stars of the sky, but he did stand out with his desire to work and character.

The way De Jong provided 1-0 shortly for rest was also atypical, namely with a beautiful running action and even more handsome headball at the first pole.

Shortly after rest, De Jong became the schlemiel, when he caused a penalty kick with an unintended handsball. Mikel Oyarzabal used the chance cool: 1-1.

Also in the series of penalties that became necessary, after no more scored in the extensions had been scored, De Jong played a leading role by blasting the first penalty in Barcelona. He wasnt the only one.

Real Sociedad missed his first three penalty kicks, allowing Antoine Griezmann – the attacker who was trained at Real Sociedad – to decide the duel. But also Griezmann did not keep a cool head and shot next to it.

Riqui Puig, the youngster who is not always valued by trainer Ronald Koeman, finally entered the decisive penalty.

On Thursday, champion Real Madrid will compete against Athletic Club in Mรกlaga. The final at the Supercup is Sunday at 21:00 in the third stadium of Seville, La Cartuja.

stadium was built in 1999 for the World Championships and served as a venue for the 2003 UEFA Cup final and sporadically a match of the Spanish national team.

The famous 6-0 humiliation of Germany, last November, took place in this stadium.
