‘Geniale’ Ihattaren still motivated at Ajax: ‘He knows a lot of guys here’

Young Ajax trainer John Heitinga saw that Mohamed Ihattaren was genius at times against TOP Oss. The left leg was good for a goal and an assist on Monday evening at the De Toekomst sports park.
Against TOP Oss, Ihattaren made his basic debut at Jong Ajax. Over the past few days, it has been a lot about the mercenary of Juventus. How many questions has Heitinga not had about Ihattaren? โ€œThat is not easy in itself, but my answers are just very short,โ€ explains the former defender in conversation with VoetbalPrimeur.
โ€œAt times, you can see his genius and how well he can play football, but its not about that.โ€ Heitinga thinks that Ihattaren and his teammates did not start the game with TOP sharply. โ€œToday we had enough quality on the field, but we were still lagging behind. That also has to do with a bit of ease. But you also see: when its going to run, we can play football very nicely at times.โ€
Ihattaren got an hour from Heitinga against TOP, last Friday against NAC Breda twenty minutes. โ€œThat goes in consultation with the first,โ€ explains Heitinga. โ€œHe has to take rhythm. He hasnt played in a long time, so youll take that into account. In close consultation with the performance team, medical team and the technical people, the choice was made today to let him play for sixty minutes.โ€
Is Ihattaren still equally motivated to return to the highest level? โ€œSure,โ€ Heitinga answers clearly. โ€œPlaying football is the best thing there is. Hes back on the field. Also remember that he already knows a lot of the guys in this group. Just look at the selection of Orange O17, when they became European champions (in 2018, ed.).โ€
