An eight-year-old girl broke both legs on Wednesday when she jumped down from the sixth floor of an apartment in The Bronx, New York City. There was a fire in the house, and the child saw no other way out.
According to The New York Post, the fire broke out around 6pm (local time). The fire made the girl trapped in the apartment. Eventually she jumped off the balcony. How exactly she ended up is unclear. The girl was rushed to the hospital, where she is now in stable condition.
When the fire broke out, the child‘s 17-year-old aunt was smoking on the balcony. She tried to save the child, but couldn’t do much because of the heavy smoke and the flames. According to various media, more than a hundred firefighters were deployed to control the fire.
According to ABC7NY, a total of at least nine others were injured. How the fire arose is still under investigation.
