Grealish stands up for Southgate: “Sometimes you get it when youre English”

At a press moment from the English team, Jack Grealish spoke about the criticism received by national coach Gareth Southgate. The English trainer got a lot over him after disappointing results in the Nations League, but Grealish finds the criticism unjustified.
The main argument why Southgate was criticized was the game during the first Nations League duels. England tied against Germany and Italy, but The Three Lions lost twice to Hungary. The team of national coach Southgate is thus at the bottom of the dangerous pool C. On Friday, England will play an important away match against Italy, and Germany will be the opponent on Monday.
Grealish stands up for his trainer. Before those matches against Hungary, we had not lost after ninety minutes since the match against Belgium in 2020. And at the last European Championships, we made it to the final. I thought the criticism was certainly too harsh, but that sometimes happens when you‘re English.
Southgate has been the national coach of the English national team since 2016. His contract runs until 2024; he previously worked as manager of England Under 21 and led Middlesbrough.
