In Greece, actor and director Dimitris Lignadis (56) was arrested for rape. He reported to the police headquarters in Athens, after media had reported that at least two people have filed charges against him.
One of them is a 25-year-old man. Lignadis alleged to have raped him in 2010, when the man was 14 years old. Lignadis himself rejects the accusations.
The actor and director has been artistic director of the Greek National Theatre since 2019. He resigned there two weeks ago, after the first reports of sexual misconduct appeared.
The Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni called him a “dangerous man” on Friday. “From the moment the rumors appeared, we demanded that he tell the truth,” she said. “He has deceived us, he has deceived me.”
In Greece, a #MeToodiscussie started, after a well-known sailor announced at the beginning of this year that in 1998 she had been abused by a prominent member of the Sailing League in a hotel room.
