Heerenveen deals huge blow to AZ with two goals in absolute final phase

SC Heerenveen made a bizarre comeback against AZ on Thursday evening. The Frisians were behind 1-2 just before the end of the match, but still managed to win 3-2. As a result, Heerenveen is in favor of return.
Heerenveen and AZ fight over two games for a spot in the final of the playoffs. In the previous meetings of this season, AZ reached the longest end, but at the Abe Lenstra Stadium it went steady on Thursday evening. In the first half, the game waved up and down and both teams were given opportunities. However, that did not result in any goals.
Fifteen minutes after rest, it was a hit. At the AZ goal, Thom Haye gave a tight cross. Goalkeeper Peter Vindahl seemed to be able to intervene fairly easily, but did not. As a result, Syndey van Hooijdonk was able to make the 1-0. AZ did not sit down at the time and immediately responded: less than a minute later it was already 1-1, due to a distance bang by Hakon Evjen.
After the equalizer, AZ remained strong and went looking for the 1-2, which also fell relatively quickly: Dani de Wit headed the ball in width just before Heerenveens goal. After that, Vangelis Pavlidis managed to hit the shots in a spectacular way. Heerenveen then wanted to use another closing offensive. AZ seemed to cross the line, however, until Amin Sarr stood up: the Swede shot the 2-2 against the ropes very nicely in the ninetieth minute.
Not much later, things got much worse for AZ: in the very last second of the game, Tibor Halilović also decided to lash out from afar. That worked out particularly well, because it yielded a nice and important 3-2. As a result, Heerenveen travels with a lead to Alkmaar for the return. That game will be scheduled at the AFAS Stadium at 2.30 pm on Sunday. The winner of the double encounter will play in the final against FC Utrecht or Vitesse.
