In the first premier league match since 8 March, sc Heerenveen won from Willem II. In Friesland it went 2-0 thanks to goals by Lucas Woudenberg and Pawel Bochniewicz
The visitors got off to a good start, had more ball possession and, via Mats Köhlert, who was just unable to slip in a cross, were close to the first hit of the premier league year 2020/2021.
But that honour went to Heerenveen defender Woudenberg. Out of a rearward attack he slid the ball in control behind keeper Robbin Ruiter, giving the home side a head start
The 4,000 supporters who were allowed to sit in the Abe Lenstra Stadium – 1.5 metres apart from each other – saw the same game image at the beginning of the lively second half. Willem II, one of last seasons surprises, had the ball.
But Heerenveen, where the players wore a mourning band because of the death of assistant coach Hennie Spijkermans wife, created the chances.
The striker Henk Veerman, who returned from Germany, hit the ball face to face with the Ruiter wrong. Purchase Bochniewicz left the goalkeeper chanceless with a header fifteen minutes before time.
The 2-0 win was a boost for coach Johnny Jansens team. In the preparation all the practice matches were lost
