Nick Hengelman joined Go Ahead Eagles at the end of January, but is leaving six months later. Via Instagram, he says goodbye to the Deventer club and he does that in a poetic way.
Go Ahead was looking for a keeper after Warner Hahns departure last winter. The 32-year-old Hengelman filled the vacancy and was the second half of the season second choice behind Andries Noppert. At the time, he was extremely happy with his step. “Go Ahead Eagles and I are actually kind of lovebirds who have been flirting with each other for years, without eventually coming to a contract, haha. Three times they approached me, three times it has been the other way around. Seven times is shipping right, shall we say,” he said on the club site.
In his parting words, Hengelman elaborates on those words. “After years of flirting, we finally gave each other that kiss. That kiss would stay and we never shared the bed. Today we say goodbye to each other. And maybe the fantasy is better than it. Go Ahead Eagles, it was a nice short time. Youre doing well,” he writes on Instagram.
Hengelmans contract expires on 1 July. It is still unknown where he continues his career.
