It has kept people busy for over a year: a herd of wild elephants travels through China and sometimes even runs through big cities. Now they finally seem to be on their way home.
The elephants are headed to Yunnan Province in southwest China. Last March, they escaped from a nature reserve there. They took a huge journey of up to 500 kilometres. Along the way the elephants passed villages and cities.
They caused a lot of junk, flattened crops, broke into homes and caused dangerous situations on roads.
It is not entirely clear why the group of about 15 elephants started the trip and why they are now walking back. They‘re still busy with that return trip. They probably won’t come back home until the fall.
