Former parliament member Theo Hiddema enters the First Chamber for Democracy. Thats what the lawyer says to NRC. Forum is entitled to a third seat in the Senate now that former FVder Nicki Pouw-Verweij has been elected for JA21 in the House of Representatives. Hiddema tells the paper that he wants to take her vacant seat in the Senate.
His return to the Binnenhof is surprising: Hiddema immediately left the House of Representatives in November, in the aftermath of the riot around anti-Semitic and racist apps of FVD youngsters.
Hiddema initially made himself available as a forum leader in last months Second Chamber elections, but he refrained from doing so because, according to him, the Forum campaign was too much about the coronation policy. “Im not an FVD person anymore. Take me off the list,” he said in January.
Hiddema now says to NRC that he likes to return to Forum because the party has a “wonderful program”. He claims to have retreated purely because of the riot around the apps. “I had ended up in that crap and I didnt feel like it anymore because youre still associated with that goo. I have been sufficiently oriented and now I know: there are no more wappies behind the curtains.”
In the First Chamber, Hiddema wants to “put a spoke in the wheel of powerless legislation”. According to NRC, hes expected to be sworn in as a senator next Tuesday.
