In several cities across the United States, people have taken to the streets to speak out for the right to abortion. The more than 600 demonstrations have attracted tens of thousands of people.
The reason is a new law passed in the state of Texas. It ranks as the strictest abortion law in the U.S., and prohibits women from abusing pregnancy if a heartbeat is noticeable, which can often be done after six weeks. Most women don‘t know they’re pregnant.
The Supreme Court is also assessing Mississippi State anti-abortion law this month. A ruling in that case may have precedent for other states. The protesters fear that the predominantly conservative court will restrict the right to abortion. The ruling will follow next year.
