Hurricane Laura does less damage than expected

The day after hurricane Laura landed in the American state of Louisiana it becomes clear what the hurricane has left behind. The governor of the state said at a press conference that the hurricane did a lot of damage, but that it is not as bad as was expected.

Weather experts were afraid of huge floods. Hundreds of thousands of Americans had to leave their homes just to be sure.

The nuisance caused by water was not so bad, but according to the governor the hurricane still has major consequences. Six people died as a result of the hurricane. Four of them died when a tree blew on their house. Half a million Americans are without power because electricity cables have been damaged.

Also many homes and businesses are broken. Rescue workers are in the area to help people.
