Club Brugge is on course for its fourth national title in six Jupiler Pro League seasons, but hopes for more. Blue-Zwart now hopes to harvest in Europe and mirrors Ajax.
Philippe Clement‘s team finished third in a Champions League pool with Borussia Dortmund, SS Lazio and Zenit Saint Petersburg before the winter stop, ensuring that the Europa League’s knockout phase was knocked out. “I hope we will win one day”, captain Hans Vanaken shows himself ambitious, in conversation with La Dernière Heure. “We follow the example of Ajax, which reached the Europa League finals and the Champions League semi-finals.”
Club Brugge takes on Dinamo Kiev on 18 and 25 February and wants to show that it has grown since its disastrous Champions League campaign in the 2016/2017 season, when a pool with Leicester City, FC Porto and FC Copenhagen did not take a single point. “Our first campaign in the Champions League ended with a 0 on 18”, Vanaken also reiterates. “Since then, we have only grown up. Our current results came from that experience. We can now go one step further.”
