Luis Suárez has once again looked back at his notorous departure from FC Barcelona. The star of Atlético Madrid got questions about it from France Football.
Barcelona went on a new course under Ronald Koeman, and Suárez was the victim of this. Hes not happy with the way things are going. “What bothered me was that they said I was old and I couldnt play at a high level anymore, I wasnt good enough for a good team anymore,” says Suárez. “I didnt like that.”
“If I hadnt done anything in the last three or four seasons, I could have understood that. But I scored over twenty goals every year. Ive always had good statistics and I was just behind Lionel Messi. We see today that it is not easy to play at Barcelona. Many of the players who are sitting there now do not have the level that is expected of them. I played there for six years and kept giving what was asked of me.”
Suárez also saw that Barcelona had to throw it over a different course. “The circumstances have changed at Barcelona, the club needed change. And Ive accepted that. What bothered me was the way. I think I deserved more respect. I could not prevent the Barcelona decision. It felt to me as if I was no longer counted on me. I told myself I wanted to show you what Im worth. Thats why I went to Atlético.”
