Louis van Gaal uses cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten‘s World Cup victory as inspiration for the Nations League match against Belgium. At Saturday’s press moment, the national coach reveals that Andries Noppert is not in the stands just like against Poland.
Van Gaal was asked about the resounding victory of Van Vleuten, who took the world title with a broken elbow. “She was already fantastic. And she shows it every time, too. And that later in life (39, ed.). Unbelievable. What an example she is for doing top sport.”
Whoever did something unbelievable to a lesser extent was Noppert. The sc Heerenveen goalkeeper surprised during the penalty series at the Orange training. “Noppert‘s penalty was remarkable. I did see that, yes,” says Van Gaal, who states that Noppert is in the match selection against Belgium. “I want to let him experience the whole process around a competition, that’s important to me. Or he‘s going to goalkeeper? You’ll see that tomorrow (Sunday, ed.).”
