In Munich, four were injured due to the explosion of an old plane bomb. This happened near the central station of the South German city. One of four people was badly injured, police report.
The explosion happened during piling work on a construction site. “There is no danger outside that area,” police say.
Due to the explosion, train traffic to and from Munich Central Station stopped for some time. In the afternoon, train traffic started again.
The emergency services were en masse at the construction site:
More than 2000 tons of bombs and other ammunition are found every year in Germany. In World War II, about one and a half million tons of bombs were dropped on land by British and American troops. Experts think that about 15 percent of the bombs did not go off then.
