Invader Van de Sanden beats Janssens’ Wolfsburg and wins third CL in a row

Dutch national team Shanice van de Sanden has again won the Champions League for women with her club Olympique Lyonnais. In the final in San Sebastian, Lyon VfL Wolfsburg, with international Dominique Janssen in the ranks, beat 3-1.

Van de Sanden fell in in the closing stages, Janssen started in the base and played out the match. Lyon was already 2-0 ahead in the first half. Eugenie Le Sommer (rebound) and Saki Kumagai (distance shot outside left) accounted for the French goal.

In the 55th minute Alexandra Popp headed the 2-1 on behalf of Wolfsburg, but the Germans could not get any closer than that. A shot that changed direction via Lyon midfielder Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir in the 87th minute definitively carried out the sentence.

For Lyon it’s the seventh title in history, the last five titles were won in the last five years. For the club of Janssen, which has been playing for Wolfsburg since the summer of 2019 – the grapes are sour. In 2016 and 2018 Wolfsburg was already in the finals against Lyon and again they grabbed the top prize.
