Irish Euro commissioner departs after violation of corona rules

The Irish European Commissioner for Trade resigns due to the violation of the corona rules. Phil Hogan was under fire after attending a dinner on Ireland’s west coast last week with more than eighty high-ranking Irish officials. That dinner was organized a day after the tightening of the coronavirus measures in Ireland.

The Minister of Agriculture, a Supreme Court judge and the Vice-President of the Irish Senate resigned earlier, other politicians apologized. The 60-year-old Hogan apologized on Monday, but at that time he did not want to know about any quarters.

An important item

Hogan had one of the more important posts within the European Commission. Among other things, he dealt with a possible trade agreement between the European Union and Great Britain and the trade dispute between the EU and the United States.

He was also European Commissioner between 2014 and 2019, when he was responsible for Agriculture.
