FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid completed the transfer from Antoine Griezmann at the end. The attacker comes across from Camp Nou on a hire basis.
Griezmann returns to the club he left in 2019. At Atlético, he was the main player, but at Barcelona he never really came out and never managed to conquer the hearts of the supporters. The rental transfer includes a compulsory option to buy – reportedly – forty million euros.
Because the transfer period closed at 00:00, it was questionable whether Barcelona and Atlético could make the transfer official on time. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish Union gave the clubs an extra twenty minutes, although LaLiga denied that. Gianluca Di Marzio writes the deal at 11:59pm (!) was filed.
Barcelona paid 120 million euros to Atlético for Griezmann in 2019, but the Frenchman does not go into the books as a successful purchase. He had a base in Camp Nou, but was less fit in the Barcelona game, also greatly disappointed in the first matches of the season and was ruled out in Camp Nou.
