The black American Jacob Blake, who was shot by the police, appeared in court through a video link. He says he is innocent of the charges that had been filed against him before the shooting incident.
It was the first time that Blake was seen in public since he was shot in the city of Kenosha by a policeman on August 23rd. Blake, who was partly paralyzed by the bullets, was sitting upright in his hospital bed with his lawyer on a chair next to him.
Blake is accused of, among other things, trespassing, assault and disorderly conduct. The suspicions are based on statements made by his ex. She is the mother of three of his children and has declared to the police that Blake had broken into her house at the beginning of May. He is said to have assaulted her and fled with her car and bank card.
The official trial against him will start in November with the appointment of the jury. “The state recognizes that these are serious allegations, but also that the accused has serious injuries and that he is recovering at the hospital,” said prosecutor Zeke Wiedenfeld.
After Blake was shot in the back by the police it was restless for days in the city of Wisconsin. According to the local police, he was shot because he behaved aggressively and carried a knife.
