Jannie Visscher has been re-elected as chairman of the SP. This was announced at the digital party congress. 60-year-old Visscher, who is also in the Eindhoven city council, has been chairman since 2019, and then she succeeded Ron Meyer.
way, Visscher was the only candidate. There was a countercandidate, Tijs Hardam, but he was recently expelled from the SP due to the communist conflict that has been raging within the party for a long time.
At the end of October, dozens of members were returned because they are also members of the former youth branch Red and/or the Marxist Forum. The SP says those groups want to transform the party into classic Marxist.
The conflict has its effect on the upcoming municipal elections in March. There are conflicts over the electoral lists in different cities. Party chairman Visscher said earlier that there is still plenty of time to come to a solution. “Lists can be submitted until the end of January.” At today‘s congress, there was no word on the issue.
Party leader Marijnissen looked ahead of the impending denouement in the cabinet formation in her closing speech. “We get the same cabinet, with mostly the same people,” said Marijnissen. “Mark Rutte is going to clean up the mess of ten years of Rutte. Who believes that?”
About her own party, which will be fifty next year, Marijnissen said that the ideas should be updated again and that new generations should be kept in place. “So we’re ready for the future.” Marijnissen summarized it as “a new SP story”.
