Johnson Strengthens Leadership at the Masters

Golf: Johnson reinforces leadership at Masters

23.25: The American Dustin Johnson took the lead alone at the Masters at Augusta. The number one in the world needed 65 strokes for its third round, seven under par. With a total of 200 strokes after 54 holes, Johnson equaled a record on the famous major. After three rounds, his compatriot Jordan Spieth also stood at 200 strokes five years ago, and the next day he was able to wear the famous green jacket as the winner of the Masters.

The 36-year-old Johnson had to share the lead after two rounds, but on Saturday, thanks to five birdies and an eagle (-2), took away from his competitors. The American enters the final round with four strokes ahead of three pursuers: South Korean Im Sung-jae, Abraham Ancer from Mexico and Australian Cameron Smith.

The leader of the world rankings ended last year in second place, behind his compatriot Tiger Woods. Johnson won one major, the US Open in 2016, and Johnson all finished second on the three other majors. Defender Woods went around on Saturday in 72 strokes (par) and stands in the twentieth place with a total of 211.

Tennis: Russian to double game final in Linz

22.18 hours: Arantxa Rus has secured a place in the final of the doubles at the final WTA tournament of 2020, the Linz indoor tournament. Together with her Slovenian partner Tamara Zidansek, she ran the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and Vera Zvonareva from Russia with 7-6 (7) 4-6 10-6 10-6. Dabrowski and Zvonareva were placed second.

On Sunday, Rus and Zidansek will compete against Czech players Lucie Hradecka and Katerina Siniakova. They are placed first.

Rus can take her third WTA title in the doubles in Linz. Rus and Zidansek wrote the WTA tournament in Palermo in August. In 2017, Russian triumphed with compatriot Quirine Lemoine in Bastad, Sweden.

Basketball: Orange-wriers keep track of European Championships

21.15: Dutch women have won their third European Championship competition against Hungary. In the Sporthallen Zuid in Amsterdam it was 68-63, so the basketball players will be able to see placement for next years European Championship in Spain and France.

After three duels Oranje is at the top of the group with 5 points, Hungary has 4 points. Slovakia stands third with 3 points, but the Slovaks played a match less.

It was the third match that was played in Amsterdam, where the basketball players of Orange, Slovakia and Hungary are staying in a so-called bubble this week. The team of national coach Hakim Salem had already won Hungarys first home match (66-56) in November of last year. On Thursday, Orange went down with 84-64 against Slovakia.

The Dutch womens team tries to place themselves in the European Championships, something that last succeeded in 1989. In the pool, the best country automatically places itself. The top five numbers 2 out of the nine groups also go to the final tournament. Whether the Netherlands is one of these teams will not become clear until February when the final and decisive pool matches are played. On 6 February 2021, the Netherlands will compete against Slovakia.

Tennis: Sabalenka and Mertens to final in Linz

20.59: The final of the WTA tournament in Linz will be held Sunday between the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens from Belgium, the number 1 and 2 of the list of places in Austria. Both players, the global number 11 and 21 respectively, needed three sets to reach the final battle.

Sabalenka (22) was the Czech Barbora Krejcikova with 7-5 4-6 6-3 the boss. Mertens (24) won with 2-6 6-1 7-5 from the Russin Ekaterina Alexandrova. Sabalenka and Mertens form a duo in doubles. They won the US Open together last year.

Motorsport: Third place for Racing Team Netherlands in 8 Hours of Bahrain

20.39 Hours: RacingTeam Nederland has won a good third place in the 8 Hours of Bahrain. The match in the Middle East was the last match of this season in the WEC long-distance championship. In the LMP2 class, only the Jackie Chan Racing of Ho-Pin Tung and Jota Sport were faster than the Dutch formation of drivers Giedo van der Garde, Nyck de Vries and Frits van Eerd.

The title in the LMP2 went to United Autosport. Racing Team Netherlands finished fourth. Also in the GTE AM class there was Dutch success. Team Project 1 with Larry ten Voorde seized the victory there.

Tennis: Italian Sinner picks first title in Sofia

16.37 pm: Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner (19) won an ATP tournament for the first time. The teenager did this by defeating the Canadian Vasek Pospisil with 6-4 3-6 7-6 (3) in the final of the Sofia indoor tournament. After two hours and a quarter of an hour, Sinner used his first match point in the tie break of the third set.

Sinner is the youngest winner of an ATP tournament since 2008, when Japanese Kei Nishikori managed to win the Delray Beach tournament. He started the week in Bulgaria as the number 44 of the world. Sinner had never made the final match of an ATP tournament.

The Sofia tournament was the last regular ATP tournament of the tennis season. Next week, ATP Finals will take place in London. The event is intended for the best eight players of the season.

Sinner wrote the Next Gen ATP Finals last year. That tournament is intended for the top eight players of the season up to 21 years. This event is not going through

Motorsport this year: Morbidelli picks pole in MotoGP 16.35 pm in Valencia

: Italian motorcycle driver Franco Morbidelli has won pole position for the Grand Prix of Valencia in the MotoGP. The 25-year-old Yamaha driver set the best time at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit with 1,30.191. He was a fraction faster than Australian Jack Miller, who was less fast on his Ducati 0.096 seconds. Morbidelli and Miller have joined the Japanese Takaaki Nakagami (Honda) on the front starting row.

Morbidelli captured his first pole in the king class in Barcelona at the end of September. The Italian could not cash his first starting place in the race. Morbidelli finished fourth place in Barcelona. He won two other grands prix this year, in San Marino and the Spanish city of Teruel. In the World Cup ranking, the Roman takes fifth place with 117 points. The Spaniard Joan Mir leads with 162 points. He has to start Sunday from spot 12.

Cycling: Veldrijder Sweeck wins fourth race Ethias Cross

Aerts and Sweeck were leading from the first round. Only Michael Vanthourenhout could follow slightly, but remained behind more than 10 seconds. Sweeck benefited from the fact that Aerts had done almost all the headwork and was too strong in the last 50 meters.

Football: Federal coach Iceland resigns after deception

Swimming: Toussaints top performance

14.48 hours: Kira Toussaint has swam the fastest time ever on the 50 meter backstroke in the International Swimming League in short track matches on Saturday. The Dutch swimmer arrived in Budapest in the semi-finals of the tournament until a time of 25.60. Since 2014, the old top time was registered to the Brazilian Etienne Medeiros: 25,67.

Toussaint will be joining the London Roar team in Budapest, where six weeks are being swam by a number of top swimmers. It is not yet clear whether the time of Toussaint is recognized as a new world record. The matches in Budapest are not held under the supervision of the international swimming association FINA.

Football: AC Milan coach Pioli tested positively on corona

Football: Firminio helps Brazil win
