Kali: ‘Apparently they think I’m expensive, but I don’t play for the money’

The preseason is in full swing and traditionally a number of clueless players have gathered at Team VVCS. The 31-year-old Anouar Kali hopes for a new chance in professional football through the contract player association.
Kali left NAC Breda in mid-2021 and is now training together with players such as Pele van Anholt, Barry Maguire Randy Wolters and Gyliano van Velzen. โ€œThis team is really a godsend for guys like me. We‘re all in the same boat, with no club. But we support each other through thick and thin, have a lot of fun. Everything has been arranged down to the last detail,โ€ says Kali to the Algemeen Dagblad. โ€œWe train here four times a week on beautiful fields, have good trainers (Erik van der Meer, Dirk Heesen and Rob van Dijk, ed.) and play against great opponents.โ€
The former player of FC Utrecht, Roda JC, Willem II and NAC, among others, has been without a club for a year, but would love to continue as a professional football player. โ€œThey seem to think I’
m very expensive, but I definitely don‘t play for the money anymore. I just want to play football at the highest possible level. I am very motivatedโ€, Kali emphasises. โ€œI’m in great shape, I can enter somewhere in no time.โ€
Team VVCS played another friendly match against Fortuna Sittard this week. It was lost 5-2, despite hits by Abdelmajid Bouali and Van Velzen.
