Kenin wins and stands for the first time in eighth finals US Open

Sofia Kenin reached the eighth finals in New York for the first time in six US Open participations. The American tennis star also stayed against Ons Jabeur without losing a set, but the player from Tunisia offered excellent resistance: 7-6 (4), 6-3.

At the beginning of this year Kenin won her first Grand Prix title (at the Australian Open) and then beat Jabeur in the quarter finals (6-4, 6-4). Jabeur, the number 31 in the world, again beat a lot of winners: 35 no less. Kenin, however, played more consistently and made fewer mistakes.

“My title at the Australian Open has changed a lot”, Kenin said afterwards. “The first period after that I had a lot of trouble dealing with pressure. I’ve repacked and now I feel like I’m playing better”

In the eighth finals she meets Elise Mertens from Belgium, who survived two setpoints against the American Caty McNally and eventually won 7-5, 6-1.
