Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp speaks of a ‘real challenge‘ in the Champions League pool with Ajax, Napoli and Rangers FC. After the draw in Istanbul, the German had to think back to the meetings with the Amsterdammers in the 2020/2021 season.
At the time, The Reds won both meetings 1-0. “It was tough matches against Ajax at the time,” says Klopp on the Liverpool website. “But all the clubs in this group have their qualities. We also all have chances to get through the group. We are facing a real challenge, but we are happy to take on it.”
“We‘ve played against Napoli before in the past, we know each other pretty well. We also know Rangers, but they are a relatively new opponent,” Klopp continues. “Their story over the past few years is very interesting and they are doing very well. We know a number of players well: Ryan Kent (ex-Liverpool, ed.) has had a good development in Scotland and Ben Davies (also ex-Liverpool, ed.) has just started his time at Rangers.”
Klopp insists that there are no easy matches in the Champions League. “The only certainty at the moment is that all six games will be incredibly competitive and very intense. I’m looking forward to it. It‘s a real football group and, as I said, a real challenge.”
