Professional football hasn’t started yet or it’s hit again. The KNVB has started an investigation into possible racist speech choirs at football club MVV in the Keuken Kampioen Division.
It concerns last Saturday’s home match against SC Cambuur. During the match, attacker Issa Kallon of Cambuur was said to have been racistly treated by the supporters of MVV.
MVV lost that game with resounding numbers: 7-1. Henk de Jong, Cambuur’s coach, reacted to the incident in front of Omroep Friesland’s camera afterwards.
“There is nothing the club can do about this, the people who are doing this are not wise”, says the trainer. “I talked to Issa at halftime, but the signal from the group was that we wanted to continue playing
The Limburg club states that it will cooperate fully with the KNVB investigation. “Should it be proven that racism was indeed involved, MVV Maastricht firmly distances itself from that. That does not belong in our stadium“, says Erik Noor, general director of MVV.
