The prosecutor paid football has started a preliminary investigation into the statements of PSV trainer Roger Schmidt about referee Bas Nijhuis.
After the competition match on Saturday against Sparta (3-5), Schmidt, who may now be suspended, said that Nijhuis had deliberately whistled to the disadvantage of his club. The prosecutor requests statements, followed by a sepot or settlement proposal, according to the KNVB.
“ He told us afterwards that he had whistled at us today because I criticized him after the match against Vitesse. That‘s unprofessional,” said Schmidt on Saturday night in front of ESPN’s camera. “I find that 100 percent unprofessional. Not to me, but he said it. So he‘s not professional. That’s my opinion. This is the second time I‘ve experienced it that way. And I’m really not happy about that.”
Schmidt and Nijhuis also argued in Arnhem at the end of October, during Vitesse against PSV (2-1). According to Schmidt, Nijhuis returned to that Saturday after the duel with Sparta. Not personally to him, but to others.
PSV meets FC Volendam in the KNVB Cup on Tuesday evening and receives RKC in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
