FC Barcelona trainer Ronald Koeman once again gives Lionel Messi a rest in the Champions League. As in the duel with Dinamo Kiev, the Argentine star is missing on Wednesday also during the visit to Ferencváros.
Apart from Messi, Marc-André ter Segen and Philippe Coutinho are missing from the competition selection. “Messi always wants to play and its good that he has this mentality,” says Koeman at the press conference. “But I have spoken with him and made the decision to give him peace. With the calendar of this season there were two moments for this: in Kiev and Wednesday. The rest of the year he may not get rest because we play every three days.”
Koeman also argues that he wants to give other players a chance. “And the game of Saturday (out at Cádiz, red.) is also important.” The Dutch trainer mainly struggles with the necessary head care in the back. Samuel Umtiti will win competition rhythm at Barça B on Wednesday, while Ronald Araújo will meet again but is still missing in Hungary. Among others, Frenkie de Jong is a central option in the back.
After four duels, Barça is still clear in group G of the Champions League and therefore certainly a place in the next round. In the last two duels, the Catalans defend a three-point lead over Juventus for group profit.
