Ronald Koeman believes that referees should do more to protect top players like Lionel Messi and Neymar. FC Barcelona plays on Tuesday in the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, which has to do without their Brazilian star.
Neymar was injured by the hard game of Caen and has to miss it again with his old teammates. “We must always protect players such as Neymar, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo,” says Koeman at the pre-match press conference, recorded by El Mundo Deportivo. “This is a task for the referees. We always want to see their qualities.”
Koeman regrets the fact that the star attacker of the Parisians is not present. However, he also knows that it is not bad for Barcelona. “It‘s important for every team to have everyone there. Neymar and Angel Di María, who is not there either, are great players and make their team better. You never know how they’re going to react to that.”
In any case, the Dutch practice master relies on his own team and thinks he can move forward in the billionaire ball. “Hopefully, we can take advantage of their shortcomings. This team can win from anyone.”
