Koeman: “Paying 50, 60 million euros for someone 33, plus salary: I doubt”

In an extensive interview with Esport3, Ronald Koeman looked back at his departure from FC Barcelona one more time and discussed a number of current themes. The successor of national coach Louis van Gaal insists that chairman Joan Laporta played a bad role.
Laporta was elected president in the spring of 2021, quickly ventilated his doubts about Koeman and took action at the end of October. That was actually a liberation, he says. I left the Dutch team for this and I would do that again, but Laporta made a big mistake. As president, it‘s best to have your doubts. But if you put it out so publicly, everyone is going to doubt.
There are also doubts about Frenkie de Jong, Koeman’
s pupil who now seems — forced to — on his way to Manchester United. I don‘t know if Barcelona wants to sell it or badly needs the money, but I do know he wants to stay. He may never have played in his favorite spot, but he remains a great player and he has played great matches in January and February. But Barcelona’s situation remains complicated.
Robert Lewandowski is set to be the new top purchase in Catalonia, but Koeman wonders if Barcelona should go so far for the Polish Bayern Munich striker. Paying fifty, sixty million euros for someone 33, plus salary… I have my doubts.
