Ronald Koeman took his own assistants with Henrik Larsson and Alfred Schreuder to FC Barcelona, but also wanted to appoint his own goalkeeper. However, the Spaniards did not agree to that.
SPORT will report on Wednesday. Koeman asked Barcelona if he could bring a goalkeeper, but the club wanted to continue with José Ramón de la Fuente, the current goalkeeper. Ter Stegen works well together with De la Fuente and didn‘t like a change in the staff either.
SPORT stresses that Quique Setién was allowed to bring his own goalkeeper. The dismissed Spaniard took Jon Pascua to Camp Nou. The link between Ter Stegen and Pascua was reportedly less strong and Barcelona therefore seems not to have complied with Koeman’s request to appoint a new goalkeeper now.
Thus, according to SPORT, Barcelona is sending a clear signal to Ter Stegen, with whom the club is discussing a contract extension. Putting De la Fuente aside now could prove to be a bad thing during the contract negotiations with Ter Stegen, who is still tied up at Camp Nou until 2022.
