Koolhof grabs with Mektic next to double game title US Open

Wesley Koolhof seized the mens doubles title at the US Open in his first grand final. He lost with the Croat Nikola Mektic 5-7, 3-6 to the Brazilian Bruno Soares and the Croat Mate Pavic.

The first set was in balance until Mektic was broken at 5-6. Then, in the second set, the decisive break at 2-3 fell on Koolhofs serve.

Soares took his third grand slam title in the mens doubles game. Together with Jamie Murray he was successful at the Australian Open and the US Open in 2016. Pavics list of honours already included the title he won at the Australian Open with Oliver Marach in 2019.

Okker, Eltingh, Haarhuis and Rojer

Koolhof could have become the fifth Dutchman with a US Open title in the mens doubles game. Tom Okker (1976), Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis (1994) and Jean-Julien Rojer (2017) preceded him.
