Lang hurts Van den Brom: Club Brugge wins cup thriller after penalties

For the KRC Genk of trainer Johan van den Brom, the cup adventure is over. Against Club Brugge, it gave a head start twice and in the end, Blauw-Zwart saved it after penalties: Noa Lang decided the penalty series.
Club Brugge had also won Genk in the competition on Sunday. Wednesday evening, after ninety minutes of playing 3-3, ร‰der รlvarez opened the score early in the game in favor of the visitors, Kristian Thorsvedt drew up after half an hour. Genk then took the lead twice through Joseph Paintsil, but both goals of the Ghanaian were nullified by Charles De Ketelaere (pictured).
Ruud Vormer had to make way in the extension and Bas Dost just fell in, but there was no more scoring. Dost opened the penalty shootings with a rake stake, Patrik Hrosovskรฝ missed the first on behalf of Genk, after which The Smurfs walked after the facts. Club Brugge remained clear and Lang finally passed the verdict.
For Van den Brom, the cup shutdown is another damper. Last seasons runner-up has to do it in the current Jupiler Pro League vintage with a tenth spot, five points away from the spots that entitle the champion playoffs.
