Donald Trumps lawyers have taken about three hours to defend the former president in the impeachment process. The main points were that there was no incitement, that he has freedom of expression and that the trial is unconstitutional because Trump is no longer president.
The lawyers told us to use only three or four hours of the available 16 hours on Thursday. They finally spoke about three hours, the plea started at 18.00 Dutch time and ended around 21.20 hours. There was still a break in between.
Trump is on trial because, according to the Democrats, he has raised his constituents, which ultimately led to the storm of the Capitol on January 6. His lawyers call the trial “political revenge” and “unconstitutional.” “The accusation is a monstrous lie.”
The case will probably not be delivered on Friday, which is expected at the earliest on Saturday.
