Premier league gate shutter PEC Zwolle has taken his first win of the season against Heracles Almelo. It seemed to go wrong twice in Overijssel for De Blauwvingers, but the VAR disapproved of the opening target of Kai Sierhuis and Rai Vloet embarked himself with a failed panenka: in the injury time PEC himself received a penalty kick, which was exploited by routine Bram van Poland.
PEC prevailed before rest, but there was very little to do in Zwolle before rest. Dean Huiberts caused the most notable target danger with a long shot, but Janis Blaswich was able to parry. After rest it became a bit more fun: Ornamental House opened the ball with a free kick, which burst onto the fists of Kostas Lamprou. Gervane Kastaneer was close to success across the street.
After an hour of play, the first hit of the night fell through Sierhuis. However, his character was frowned upon by the VAR, due to offside of principal Giacomo Quagliata. Ten minutes later, the ball hit the spot after a duel between Ryan Koolwijk and Delano Burgzorg. Vloet had an excellent opportunity to set Heracles to 0-1, but his casual panenka went well.
Both teams seemed to have to do it with a goalless draw, but the game took another dramatic turn in the last minute. Arbiter Nagtegaal overlooked an offence on Huiberts, but was called aside by the VAR and joined the advice from Zeist after lengthy deliberation: penalty for the home team. Van Poland took responsibility and restrained his nerves: 1-0.
After more than a hundred minutes of football, PEC found its connection with the safe spots. Art Langelers team climbs from one to four points and has RKC Waalwijk, Sparta and FC Groningen in the sights again.
